This event has already passed

Green Chalk Contemporary in Monterey's Lighthouse District invites everyone to join us for a free talk by Francie Hester and Anne Marchand, artists whose work will be featured in our gallery, March 15 - May 3, 2014. For more information, please phone Ami-Sue Lawless at 831-601-0534.

Francie Hester: Symbolic Spaces
Francie Hester's new work examines time as infinite, fluid, without discrete beginning or end. She uses fabricated steel, plexiglass disks, solid aluminum disks, and aluminum panels with a honeycomb core to create this work. Successive layers of acrylic paint are applied, sanded, heated, and then reapplied to create the depth of the surface. Some surfaces are etched with brain scans, and others are drilled. A final layer of wax and raw pigment pulls out the patina and richness of the layered colors.

Anne Marchand: Threads
Anne Marchand's work originates in the movement of energy…energy that animates and connects all physical things. Often inspired by NASA photography from telescopes in deep space as well as by the macrocosm and microcosm of the human body, Marchand's paintings suggest connections of the visible with the invisible. With layers upon layers of colors, materials, words, and forms, inspired by sources as disparate as astronomy, nature, and poetry, Marchand's imaginative and fascinating work is akin to a complex and abstract puzzle, drawing the audience into her mesmerizing visual landscape.
