Green Chalk Contemporary: "Fresh Fish" Opening Reception & Artist Talk
This event has already passed
Green Chalk Contemporary in Monterey's Lighthouse District is proud to present Fresh Fish, an exhibition open July 12 - August 9, 2014. On June 12, 6pm-8pm, everyone is cordially invited to join us for a free opening reception, featuring a talk by participating artist Michael Kerbow.
The work of Michael Kerbow alludes to the way we engage with, or impact, the planet Earth. A serious painter from the East Bay, Kerbow frequently uses images that harken back to the tradition of Dutch still life paintings, often portraying piles of food that signify the transitory impermanence of life.
In his talk tonight, Kerbow will discus how fish became a metaphor in his work for the natural resources that sustain us. They aren't shown in their natural state of existence. Rather, they are chopped or crushed together - sprawling indefinitely beyond the edge of the composition.
And tonight, be sure not to miss the work of Heather Seavey, one of our Fresh Fish featured artists, who flown all the way from Paris to create a real fish sculpture for the opening of the exhibition!
Green Chalk Contemporary art gallery is open Tuesday - Saturday, 1pm-7pm and by appointment. For more information, please phone Ami-Sue Lawless at 831-601-0534.
