Big brother is watching you. Paper Wing Theatre Company presents 1984, an adaptation of the dystopian novel by George Orwell. Performances are scheduled on Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm, July 11-26 at our Lighthouse District theatre.
With surveillance cameras and spies in the cities, there is nowhere to hide. Winston and Julia, two citizens of the police state called Oceania, fight the odds and the Party (which scrutinizes every human act) to attempt an illegal love affair. These criminal deeds bring Winston into the eye of the opposition and cause the Party to use techniques ripped from today's headlines in order to reform him. "1984" parallels our modern society with eerie accuracy, showing the mind control and fear of individuality that lies just below the surface of state propaganda.
